Technology
GSLIS has its own computer lab on the Boston campus, known as the GSLIS Tech Lab. (GSLIS students at Mount Holyoke also have access to a GSLIS-only computer lab. For details see the MHC Campus Student Fact Sheet.) This lab is open only to GSLIS students, and contains PCs and Macs with a variety of software useful for students in the program. The lab is always staffed by a Technology Reference Assistant: a current GSLIS student who can answer questions and help troubleshoot software and hardware in the lab. In addition, Simmons has a college-wide Technology Office, which handles many aspects of the technology on campus, including the wireless network, e-mail support and maintenance of student network storage space. This page contains links to technology-related information on the GSLIS Tech Lab and Simmons Technology Office websites.

Cataloging Lab
The Cataloging Lab (P-214) is part of the GSLIS Tech Lab suite. GSLIS students wishing to access the Cataloging Lab can use their Simmons College ID in the card reader mounted by the door. If your card does not work, please see the TRA on duty. She or he can let you into the lab, and put in a request to give you access to the door with your ID.
The hours for the Cataloging Lab are the same as those for the Tech Lab (please note: these hours differ from the library's hours). Technology resources in the Cataloging Lab include 6 PCs running Windows XP (all with CD burners) and one printer. You can bring your laptop into the Cataloging Lab and access the Simmons College wireless network, or use an Ethernet cord for wired access. The worktable in the Cataloging Lab has several Ethernet ports and power outlets built in to the top. (Please note: you cannot access the printers via the wireless network—you can only print from an existing workstation in the Cataloging Lab or the Tech Lab.) Materials in the Cataloging Lab may only be removed for the purpose of making photocopies in the GSLIS Lounge.
