Curriculum Revision: LIS 488 Becomes a Core Course

In April 2004, faculty voted that LIS 488 (Technology for Information Professionals) will become a core requirement beginning in Fall 2005. This means that:

1. For students ENTERING the GSLIS program in Fall 2005, LIS 488 is a newly required (core) course. It also will be a prerequisite for most technology classes.

2. For students CURRENTLY enrolled in the program (i.e., entering Summer 2005 or earlier), core requirements will not change. However, as of Fall 2005 most technology classes will require as a prerequisite either LIS 488 or permission of the instructor. Students should plan accordingly and discuss their course plan with their advisor to ensure their ability to enroll in technology courses in the fall.
