Loving Oranges
Being from California where oranges are so plentiful, I connected to this essay. The sound, sight, smell, taste, and touch of the orange was so fervent through Woiwode's words.
I felt almost connected to his loving sentiments of the orange. Woiwode basically personified the orange giving it life and meaning in his world as a child.
I thought that it was so interesting that a person could love an inatimate object so much and appreciate its very existence. It makes me feel guilty for not appreciating certain things in life like I should, and it makes me think that I should make an effort towards doing so.
I enjoyed this essay.

Yasmin-- I definetely agree with your statement that so many people so not appreciate the small things as they should. It is definetely the small things that make life life, the oranges, our pets, the new purple pen I got today. I think our entire society could benefit from spending more time with the small things. If we only live when big things are happening, we miss out on the best part!! Good job!

California... We do have the oranges! (: I found that the oranges in the essay represented another world for the narrator; an exotic, bright world that contrasted greatly from his own. It could very well be that the oranges in this essay represented the idealism that comes along with our sunny home state!
