Rachel
I have yet to notice people's gestures. I don't know what's going on, you all seem to be able to not not notice them. I said to myself the other day "I'm going to focus on her gestures during the conversation" but I couldn't, I did for like a minute and that was it. Maybe I need to focus more, I'll keep trying! But are there any hints???

Rachel, I haven't really noticed people's gestures either, maybe it just because we are so used to seeing them everyday. The only time I noticed gestures was when we were watching Crash the other night. But I am going to try harder today!

I think most of it depends on the context of the conversation. I had difficulty focusing on the gestures myself also because gestures alone do not really stand for anything. Seeing as I usually lipread people, I found myself losing track of the conversation as well as missing the gestures. All it really takes is focus and a person who uses gestures a lot to communicate meaning. Best of luck!

I'm having trouble too. I tried it on one of my professors, but I was losing track of class so I had to give up and focus on what she was talking about. So I would recommend not focusing on a profesor, but on someone else like your roommate.

Yea, sometimes it is kind of difficult. I just try not to think about it too hard, and then I just can't help but notice them throughout a conversation.
