CareerNow! Weekly Job Blog: Finding a Job in Tough Economic Times

Note: You will need to use your Simmons login to access this article off-campus.

In a recent article from Business Week, Collen Paulson provides some advice for finding a job in this challenging economic environment:

  • Take Chances – look for an entry level position or consider “temping” – it is a great way to get your foot in the door, and if nothing else, it helps paying the bills.
  • Be realistic – there is a good chance that you might have to start from a lower position than you hoped; be ready to make some initial sacrifices before moving on up to the job of your choice.
  • Be aware of the limitations of networking – Sites like Linkedin can be great in establishing networks, but you should realize that hiring managers are probably not looking on these forums for their next candidate.
  • Keep your resume updated – since you never know where the next opportunity might come from, it is best to have a few versions of your resume updated and ready to be sent out on a moment’s notice.
