iComps Information Access workshop

Posted February 08, 2009

Tuesday, 2/10/09, 3-4:30pm Location: LIB 225 (Library classroom)

If you are a Dix Scholar, transfer student, or new first-year student who entered the College either this spring or last fall and did NOT take MCC this year, this workshop is for you.

Unlike the other sections of the iComps exam, the Information Access skills were taught through presentations and assignments in MCC classes. This hands-on session is designed to teach those same skills to students who were not enrolled in MCC this year. Students who took MCC but would like a review of Information Access skills are also welcome to attend.

Topics will include an introduction to information literacy; using the Library catalog and electronic resources to locate books, reference materials, and scholarly articles; narrowing a research topic; and evaluating and citing information sources.

To register for this workshop, email Kelly Jo Woodside at Woodside@simmons.edu or call 617-521-2721. (Walk-ins welcome.)

Can’t make it this Tuesday? The iComps Information Access workshop will also be held on:

  • Thursday, 2/19/09, 9-10:30am
  • Tuesday, 2/24/09, 3-4:30pm
  • Sunday, 3/1/09, 1-2:30pm

Please register by emailing Woodside@simmons.edu with the date you plan to attend.

For more information about Information Access or other iComps topics, please log into the iComps eLearning course (IT001 iComps Spring 2009).
