In the world of academe, there are currently many opportunities for history professors. The subject is becoming much more specialized than ever before, and many new jobs are in specialized fields such as African or Middle Eastern history. Globalization and the demands of an increasingly connected world illustrate the need for students to learn not just about their nation, but about the world. Despite predictions about fierce competition in the future, history remains one of the strongest and fastest growing areas of professorship. The continued recognition and encouragement of different topic areas within history only serves to bolster the strength of the field for job seekers.
