By Annabelle Gurwitch, Touchstone, 2006
Now available in the Career Resource Library —
Annabelle Gurwitch’s book Fired! gathers a series of stories about being axed from work. Narratives come from a variety of people, including a number of celebrities. Gurwitch wrote the book after being fired by her professional idol, Woody Allen, as a mean of working through an experience that had left her feeling inadequate for her line of work. In general the collection of stories reflects the common experience that while getting fired is never pleasant, it can lead to positive results. Some of the contributors related stories of finding better employment later on and having been pushed into more rewarding labor markets. In general, Gurwitch provides her readers with a ray of light on a negative experience that if handled well can lead to a better job.
