“What they don’t tell you about cover letters”

In this post, one recruiter explains why he, along with most of the other recruiters he knows, doesn’t read cover letters. He says, “Most cover letters don’t tell me anything. And all of them are in a different format so the information I might look for is not always in the same space. In short, there is no way to quickly skim a cover letter and look for details that will jump out at me.”
But remember, there are still many employers out there who do take the time to read cover letters, and as this author points out, there’s no way to know which category of recruiter your application will end up with.
