Welcome, Spring! Or Spring Semester, anyway. With the new year underway, now is the perfect time for a career “check-in.” Don’t forget that the Career Resource Library has hundreds of resources to help with your career needs, whether that means orchestrating a job change, finding a great summer internship, or preparing for life after graduation.
For our first entry this year, we decided to look at “Seven Major Job Trends for 2007,” by Matt Ferguson, CEO of Careerbuilder.com. According to Ferguson, the coming year will bring the creation of 1.5 million new jobs by American businesses, coupled with a shrinking skilled labor pool. As a result, he predicts that employers will become more competitive in enticing new skilled labor and in retaining current employees. Among this group of workers, benefits bestowed ranging from very competitive salaries to better training are enumerated in the article. Also, another predicted trend for 2007 will be a greater emphasis among companies on workplace diversity (the article specifically mentions a growing demand for hispanic/latino workers). All in all, looks like a good year ahead for jobseekers!
