Imagine obtaining the “American Dream” - getting a six-figure salary, buying a great house, driving an expensive luxury car. I’m sure this all sounds great to a lot of people. Yet, also imagine that as you get into your forties or fifties, you start questioning the value, social or otherwise, of your high-paying job. You feel sort of empty inside.

This article profiles four people, three of whom have either completed or will be completing their MSW here at Simmons, who have given up the money and prestige of the corporate world in order to pursue careers that help people in need. Along with touching upon what led them to their career changes, the interviewees explain how the material sacrifices were greatly overshadowed by the satisfaction and fulfillment of their new careers in social services.
