Is there buzz among your co-workers that staff cutbacks may be pending? If so, rather than panicking, there are many practical ways to prepare yourself for a possible job loss and to minimize the amount of time that you may be unemployed. This article addresses ways to prepare for the worst including updating one’s resume, making use of one’s network of contacts, learning new skills, keeping up one’s morale, and even considering a long-envisioned career change. The many proactive strategies suggested in the article are equally applicable to those who simply want to change jobs, even without the anticipation of a layoff. Anyone who is seeking greater job fulfillment will benefit from reading this article.
