Women in the business world are seeking a place where they can meet with colleagues and clients in an informal environment. Men have visited the golf club for years for business meetings and social gatherings — isn’t it time women have their own events?
Shoe shopping in Manhattan at a boutique was a complete success for 53 women who are lawyers. The shoes served as an ice-breaker, and women could search for shoes and chat and get to know each other. Law firms as well as big companies like Ernst & Young LLP, Merrill Lynch & Co., and General Electric Co. are having spa retreats, conferences at resorts, and “evenings at art galleries and cooking demonstrations, all organized by women who want to network and socialize with clients…”
Companies have supported the events because many of them are built on forming positive relationships with people. These events for women do just that. Companies have also held adventure-based activities for women including rock climbing. Women can relate to each other and the challenges they have faced climbing to the top of their industry.
So what are you waiting for? Get involved in networking groups! They are fun, active, and you are bound to meet someone who knows how you can get that job you always wanted.
