Victoria Reitz, Machine Design, 4/12/07, Vol. 79, Iss. 7, pg. 49.

This article emphasizes the importance of mentoring relationships throughout one’s life, from childhood through college and into the professional field. A mentoring relationship is beneficial for both mentor and mentee: “protégés benefit from the insights of more experienced individuals,” while “mentors benefit from a sense of ‘giving back,’ helping a new professional get started, and sharing their wisdom.” The article defines the mentor’s role, iterates reasons for starting a mentoring relationship, and suggests ways of finding a mentor or mentee.
