“Attracting the Twentysomething Worker”

While this article was written as a guide for Babyboomers interacting with twentysomethings in the workplace, it can provide the twentysomething reader with insight into the way their peer group is viewed by the rest of the world. And what is the [perceived] typical profile of a Gen Yer? A “hipster and a climber, (s)he is all nonchalance and expectation.” And when it comes to joining the workforce, “they’re ambitious, they’re demanding and they question everything.” Luckily for Gen Yer’s, with so many Babyboomers set to retire in the next few years, they are sufficiently in demand to negotiate for their priorities with their future employers. And luckily for their employers, as demanding as this new generation of workers might be, they also come with “more information in their heads, more information at their fingertips … the highest expectations first and foremost for themselves.” Corporate culture is on the verge of a major revolution as these younger employees begin to dominate the workforce.
