As more companies transfer their workers to foreign nations and more students choose to study abroad, worldwide expenses become more and more relevant to American workers.
Mercer Human Resource Consulting came out with its 2007 list of the world’s most expensive cities, based on the cost of living and purchasing basic items, such as a fast food burger. Many of them have moved around on the list since 2006, and there are surprises when it comes to U.S. cities. Remaining at number one is Moscow, where a two-bedroom apartment can cost over four thousand dollars and a CD is $24.83. The most expensive city in America continues to be New York City, but it, along with other American cities, have dropped in the rankings since last year. It is also the only American city to place in the top twenty, with Los Angeles, the second most expensive American city, placing at number forty-two. The list is made up almost entirely of foreign cities.
