Dawn Rosenthal McKay, About.com Career Planning, July 10, 2007.

Given the rapid pace of today’s workplace, it is very easy for any employee to opt out of taking a vacation. Whether it is because the employee wishes to avoid the inevitable pile-up of work which awaits her upon her return or whether she feels that she will come across as a more dedicated worker, this article emphatically discourages skipping vacations.
The author makes a strong case for getting away from the office as extremely beneficial for reducing stress, for mitigating possible burn-out, and for boosting long-term productivity. There are also links accompanying the article which explore the topics of stress reduction and coping with burn-out in greater depth.
Whether or not you currently feel negative effects of job pressures, read this article for its cautionary/preventative value. And remember, all work and no play is an untenable situation for anyone in the long-run.
