From the Monster Blog: Become a Subject-Matter Expert with Social Media, Feb. 7, 2008
This short post offers tips on using sites like Blogger, Facebook and Twitter to shore up expertise on a given topic. If you suspect that being a resident expert on anything from Microsoft Word to ancient Greek will give you a leg-up in the job hunt, harness the awesome power of blogs and social networking sites to your advantage! Explore blog search engines such as Technorati for sites devoted to your topic of choice. Check the blogrolls of sites you know to be of quality. And, most importantly, get out there and blog yourself! Maintaining a blog is a great way to connect with numerous like-minded people. Also, never underestimate the power of taking online connections offline—in-person networking is still the best way to meet people and establish connections within a profession.
For more information from Monster about social networking sites and the job hunt, see Seven Tips for Social Networking Online and Social Software and Your Career, an interview with Scott Allen, the author of The Virtual Handshake: Opening Doors and Closing Deals Online.
