The Future of Cover Letters—Today!

Cover Letters That Talk. Diverse: Issues in Higher Education, 2/21/2008, Vol. 25 Issue 1, p11-11

Be the star of your next job application! The following is a short article from Issues in Higher Education about video cover letters, or VINTROS.

“For hiring managers, the age of poring over repetitious, lackluster cover letters and résumés could soon be coming to an end with the advent of video introductions (VINTROs), according to www.HireMeNow.com, a temporary and contract employment marketplace. A survey conducted by the Web site in December of 2007 revealed that over 80 percent of hiring managers are willing to view video résumés as part of the hiring process. Of those surveyed, 63 percent immediately said yes to considering a video as part of a candidate’s application. Although 37 percent of respondents replied “no,” “maybe” or “don’t know” to the question, 55 percent indicated that they would likely view a VINTRO after seeing a satisfactory traditional résumé.

“The video résumé, which we believe is best used as a video intro [or VINTRO], lets the job seeker show their enthusiasm, energy and attitude — all important attributes in the hiring decision and ones that cannot be found on a written résumé. So, hiring managers can get a sense of not only a potential employee’s qualifications, but whether the will fit into the organization’s culture,” says Allen Bornstein, president and founder of HireMeNow.com.”
