Some social change organizations such as Teach for America and the Peace Corps have noticed an increase in the number of college grads taking up these sorts of ventures. While many of these grads chalk up their choice to the restricted job market, researchers also find that there is a large portion of today’s youth who value social causes. Many students desire to make a difference but also wish to ensure good opportunities for themselves later. Journalist Anne Marie Chaker provides some insight in her article Altruism Meetings a Weak Job Market, published recently in the Wall Street Journal, on how students can make a difference, while picking up some valuable work experience along the way.
