In the time of economic uncertainty, the golden rule for layoffs is “last in, first out”. Recently published in the journal Advertising Age, Sally Hogshead gives out advice for the employees that are at the beginning of their careers.
- “Bring more to the party” – if you are constantly looking for ways to bring value to the team/department/firm, you will be seen as an indispensable asset for the company.
- “Don’t hide” – it’s a good idea to get out of the office and talk to people; for any manager, it is a lot easier to fire people that you don’t know.
- “Cut the drama” – everyone is having problems, so they are unlikely to be swayed by yours.
