So You Didn’t Get the Job…It’s Not Over!

The possibility of rejection is very real when job searching; Bruce Clavin of the Black Collegian gives out a few pointers on what to do when you receive the dreaded rejection letter.

Some of the recommendations:

  • Put things in perspective: it’s a well known fact that employers receive hundreds of resumes for their advertised positions; the fact that you even got invited to an interview puts you in a very rarefied company;
  • Try to keep a positive attitude: go through the interview again and ask yourself if there is anything that you would do different – should you have spent more time on researching the company or maybe arranging for an informational interview ?
  • Rely on your friends and family – they can be a invaluable source of comfort during the rollercoaster ride of job hunting; seek out accomplished professionals in the field and ask for their guidance or mentorship.

Being rejected for a job can never be a pleasant experience, but it is almost inevitable. As the article concludes: “Stay in the game until you reach the winner’s circle. It’s definitely not over yet!”
