“Thanx so much!!!” “Gr8 2 meet u!” “LOL! ” You may use online slang like this when you’re texting or emailing your friends, but would you write like this to a potential employer? Believe it or not, employers are receiving thank you notes, thank you text messages, and even messages on Facebook containing shorthand language and decorative symbols like smiley faces. Sarah E. Needleman of The Wall Street Journal warns young job seekers to take caution with using online lingo and slam, and using methods like text messaging to communicate with potential employers.
