The start of a new year presents a nice opportunity to assess the past years’ accomplishments and get organized for the upcoming year. John Borchardt’s December article in Contract Management highlights some ideas to get you thinking about what you’ve learned and what you can improve upon in the next phase of your career. Although December has passed, it is not too late to think about career advancing tactics. Here are some tips the author suggests to get you started:
- Review what you’ve accomplished in 2008 and list your accomplishments.
- Consider what strengths and resources you have but did not exploit in 2008.
- Identify abilities you need to strengthen.
- SET GOALS at your job and personally. Make sure they are specific and challenging but also sensible. And write them down! The act of writing and seeing them will motivate you to take action.
Take a look at some of our Self-Assessment tools for more insight on your possible strengths and weaknesses, and check the Career Resource Library’s web site regularly for the latest resources on jobs and careers in print and online.
