As you know, the Career Resource Library has oodles of books related to jobs, careers, grad school, and the list goes on. One of our prized sections is ‘ALANA Information’. ALANA stands for African, Latina, Asian, Native American, and these are our books that address minority career issues specifically. Take a look at the following examples:
FEATURED BOOKS
Black out : the black person’s guide to redefining a career path outside of corporate America, by Michelle T. Johnson.
This is a book for all the entrepreneurs out there. Johnson invites you to consider leaving the boundaries of corporate America and create work of your own based on passion.
Minority rules : turning your ethnicity into a competitive edge, by Gary M. Stern, 2006.
In this book, Stern serves as your guide for surviving corporate culture. Without holding back, he advises minorities on what they have to do politically, psychologically, and culturally, in order to make it to the top.
Black Power Inc. : the new voice of success, by Cora Daniels, 2004.
This book describes corporate America from the angle of the new Black executive. Whereas in the past Black professionals tried to deny the matter of race, today’s generation takes a different approach. Daniels explores how this is affecting corporate culture, the Black community, as well as the nation as a whole.
FEATURED FREE STUFF!
Both the Career Resource and the Beatley libraries have take-away career magazines. Here are two of the bunch that relate to diversity issues:
Job Choices: Diversity Edition
This is a career magazine put out by the National Association of Colleges and Employers. Features a yearly diversity issue.
Inclusion: Perspectives on Career Advancement
This is an annual magazine put forth from the Bay State Banner. It is intended to serve college students of color heading off into professional life and it is distributed to various colleges, universities, and cultural centers in Massachusetts.
To pick up your copies, come to the CRL or check out the CRL kiosk at the Beatley library – between the Reference and Circulation desks.
