In special honor of Black History Month, the Career Resource Library is highlighting some African American career resources!
FEATURED ARTICLE
The following article, ‘Black Students Wanted for Careers in Finance’, talks about the Robert Toigo Foundation. Originally, set up in the 1980’s, this organization was founded with the intent to change the ‘face’ of the financial industry. Its current approach is social networking through Facebook, where aspiring and established professionals can connect for mentoring, support, tip-sharing, etc. regarding careers in business administration, and finance. By becoming a member of this online community, you will also find out and be potentially eligible for the many fellowship and scholarship opportunities. Also featured are prep tools, MBA application guidelines, and contests.
This article is from The Black Collegian Online, written by Malik Russell, January 05, 2009.
FEATURED FINANCIAL AID RESOURCES
The Career Resource Library boasts a couple of great books that specialize in financial aid for African Americans.
Beckham’s guide to scholarships for black and minority students : over 1000 private money sources for Black and minority students, by Barry Beckham, 2005.
This is a sourcebook that provides over 1000 sources of financial aid. You’ll be able to find contact information, eligibility requirements, and other resources.
Financial aid for African Americans, by Gail Ann Schachter and R. David Weber, 2006.
This large volume belongs to a series of Financial Aid books. This directory describes scholarships, fellowships, loans, and internships – to the tune of billions of dollars – for Black/African Americans. The support provided by this funding is intended for a myriad of things ranging from study to professional development activities.
