Bill: [approaching Socrates] How’s it going? I’m Bill, this is Ted. We’re from the future.

Socrates: Socrates.

Ted: [whispering to Bill] Now what?

Bill: I dunno. Philosophize with him!

From Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure

Philosophy is currently one of the most popular undergraduate majors and its devotees are quick to promote its many usefulness in many areas including…job hunting? Diane Cole’s article reports on the new interest in philosophy and how, in today’s tough economic market, it can be of use to those looking for employment.

Job seekers need to be flexible and have skills that can be applicable to a wide variety of jobs. Philosophy teaches logic, critical thinking and analytical writing, important and useful tools for any job seeker. If you haven’t settled on a major or minor yet, or just are looking for interesting electives, it might be a good investment in your future to check out philosophy.
