Communication Counts in Landing a Job

Despite its slightly misleading title, “Communication is crucial to landing a job”, this article by Mary Civiello still has some good advice for preparing for an interview, divided in two sections: “what you say” and “how you say it”:

WHAT: Be prepared to lead the conversation (even by starting with an innocuous conversation about the weather); prove your points (make sure that you have little stories that can support your statements in the interview) and do your homework (make sure to research the company beforehand and look for the right moment to bring that into conversation).

HOW: express enthusiasm (and not only for the interesting things), remember to smile and maintain good eye contact, take a moment before answering (and remember to breathe), finish off with a handshake and make sure to follow up (with a thank you note and any points that you might have remembered after the interview was over).
