Borrowing Books
Students in the GSLIS@Mount Holyoke program have a number of options to
explore when searching for books. These options, and the steps involved in
borrowing books, are outlined below. If you would like a more in-depth explanation,

Mount Holyoke Library
- Search for the book in the Mount Holyoke
online
catalog.
- Verify that Mount Holyoke owns the book by looking for the MH-Main-Library code in
the library column.
- Check the book out at the Mount Holyoke Library Circulation Desk.
- Return the book to the Mount Holyoke Library Circulation Desk when you are
finished with it.
Simmons College Library
- Search for the book in the Simmons Library online
catalog.
- Click the red Request button in the upper left-hand side
of the screen.
- Log in with your Simmons login and password.
- Fill out the online form, select GSLIS West-Mount Holyoke as
the pick-up location, and click the Submit button.
- Confirm by clicking Select Requested Item on the next page.
- The book will be shipped to your home via FedEx.
- Return the book to the Mount Holyoke Library Circulation Desk when you are
finished with it.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
- You may request books or articles not owned by Mount Holyoke or Simmons College through
ILL.
- Connect to the Simmons Library online
catalog and click the Request
an Interlibrary Loan link or locate your item in WorldCat.
- Click the ILL service link.
- Log into your personal ILL account using your Simmons network ID and password.
- The first time you log in your will be asked to register. When you register, please identify yourself as a Mount Holyoke
student by choosing Library and Information Science - Mt. Holyoke from the Department pulldown list.
- The next time you return to ILL, you can simply log in.
- Choose your action from the Main Menu .
- Fill out the form and click the Submit Request button.
- Your item will be sent to Simmons College and then forwarded to your home via FedEx.
- Return the item to the Mount Holyoke Library Circulation desk when you are
finished with it.
Note: If you need only one chapter of a book that Simmons does not own, it is sometimes
faster to request just that chapter.
Additional Options
In addition to the print collection, there are three electronic collections
of online books available: ebrary, NetLibrary, Books 24x7, and ebrary. Each of these collections
can be accessed by going to the GSLIS Collection homepage and selecting Ebrary, NetLibrary, or Books 24x7 from the All GSLIS Eresources pulldown menu.
All of the items accessible electronically can be searched in the Simmons OPAC. Entries for books available electronically will include a link to the vendor.
Once you are connected, you can search for
and read a specific e-book. For more information about how to use each collection,
please click on the Help button
located in the menu bar at the top of the home page for each service.
Please note, first time users of ebrary and Books 24x7 will be asked to create a free account. Once your account is created, you can take advantage of cool features like browsing, highlignting, and bookmarking.
