Library Course Reserves: Guidelines for Students
- How do I find
out what's on reserve for my course?
- Browse the Libraries' online public access catalog (OPAC) by course name or professor last name. There are OPACS located directly across from the Circulation/Reserves desk.
- What information
do I need to give at the Circulation/Reserves desk to get my
reserves?
- For books, you will need to supply the call number. We suggest writing this information down on a piece of notepaper (you'll find notepaper and pencils near all computers) and handing it to the student assistant at the desk.
- For photocopied materials such as journal articles, lecture notes and sample tests, you will need to tell us the folder number.
- How many reserve items can I borrow at once? Reserve items may only be borrowed one at a time, with the following exceptions:
- Folders may be borrowed two at a time if they are returned in 20 minutes.
- Books for physical therapy courses may be borrowed up to three at a time.
- Picture books for Children's Literature may be borrowed up to five at a time.
- How long can I borrow reserves? Can
I renew them? Can I leave the library with them?
- Reserve items usually loan for two or three hours, and are for in-library use only.
- Some reserves have longer loan periods ranging from 24 hours to one week. These may of course leave the library.
- Reserve items may not be renewed.
- Are there fines for overdue reserve
materials?
- Yes. Overdue reserves are fined at a rate of 25 cents an hour.
- Who can use the reserves collection?
- Anyone may use items in the reserves collection.
- Some of the items on reserve for
my course say "Electronic Copy Available." How
do I view or print this copy?
- Click on the title of the item. You will be prompted for your last name and Simmons College ID number. After you enter the information, you will see an electronic version of the item that you can view or print directly from your computer. Electronic reserves are restricted to Simmons students, faculty and staff only.
- Where can I check out a video on reserve?
- In the Language Lab, Room C-311.
- Where can I view a reserves video?
- In the Language Lab, Room C-311, the viewing area outside L-109 in the lower level of the library, or in the Media Center, Room P-108.
