Collection
Circulating and Reference books at the SOM Library is divided into a Career Collection and a General Collection. Career books provide information on careers, employers, job outlooks and salaries. General books help to answer specific questions and provide starting points for more in-depth research. Reference books are for library use and may not be checked out. Circulating books from both collections may be checked out for four weeks and may be renewed over the phone. There are no fines on regular circulating books. The SOM Library also has electronic access, via the library catalog, to the full text of thousands of the best business and managment books and periodicals.Research Appointments
The SOM Librarians are always available to assist you in your course and career research. When beginning a project, it is a good idea to meet with a librarian to brainstorm on potential resources and to learn how to use the appropriate electronic resources. You may drop in at any time, or call Linda Schuller Wolf (617.521.3851) or Michael Wick (617.521.3847) to arrange a specific time. Please arrange for a research appointment if you require more than 15 minutes.Course Reserves
Required textbooks for the current semester's MBA program courses are placed on reserve at the SOM Library. Professors may also request additional items to be held on reserve, such as non-required books, videos, and DVDs. Many items, including class readings and syllabi, are also now available on each Simmons elearning Course page. Items circulate for two hours. Reserve textbooks are not to be substituted for purchasing your own personal copies.Group Study Rooms
The sign-up sheets for the group study rooms in the 409 Commonwealth Ave Building are located at the library's circulation desk. You may reserve a room up to two weeks in advance for 2 blocks/4 hrs per day.Inter Library Loan (ILL)
Books and periodical articles not owned by Simmons may be requested free of charge through ILL. Please allow at least 10 days for book requests to arrive; journal articles are often available online in pdf format within a few days.Copiers and Fenway Cards
There are two copiers for student use located on the SOM campus: one in the SOM Library, the other in the vending machine area by the dining room. Copiers require a Fenway card, which is your Simmons ID card, to print copies. For more information on the Fenway card, please see the Campus Card Office.
The SOM Librarians have a blog, available at http://somlibrarian.wordpress.com/, recently recognized by HR World as one of the "Top 100 Management and Leadership Blogs". Topics include women in business, corporate social responsibility, marketing, entrepreneurship, and many others.
