Database: ABI/INFORM Global
ABI/INFORM Global is a long-established and essential resource for finding information on world-wide business conditions and topics specific to a given industry.
Subjects
Business, management, finance, economics
Characteristics
Coverage is broad and eclectic, encompassing such topics as economic models of offshore banking and library science research in Belgium. This database indexes over 1,800 primary business and management publications in English, about 20% of them published outside the U.S. Scholarly journals, magazines, trade publications, and newspapers are all included. Many articles are available in full text, often with the original graphics. Holdings for some publications extend as far back as 1971; fulltext begins around the late 1980s or early 1990s.
Features
Searches can be restricted to articles with full text online or to articles in scholarly journals. The latter category includes not only peer-reviewed (refereed) academic journals, however, but also some other journals the publisher considers "scholarly in terms of content, intent, and
audience." An Alerts feature lets you schedule the current search to run repeatedly for up
to a year and send the results to your email account (RSS is not currently available). Check the Search Tips link for more features—for example, searching
for ticker(AAPL) will locate documents about Apple Computer, Inc.
Usage
- The Basic tab lets you find articles by keyword, filtering on such criteria as date or document type.
- The Advanced tab exposes the database's full search capabilities, including locating companies by NAICS code.
- The Topics tab helps you to identify a specific subject, company, location, or person and then find articles about that topic.
- The Publications tab lets you browse individual journals, such as the Wall Street Journal from 1984 to the present.
