Joy Ramsbotham

Joy Ramsbotham is set to begin her second year as Simmons head field hockey coach. In her first season, Ramsbotham led the Sharks to an 8-12 overall record, which included eight wins in the team's final 14 games and an appearance in the semifinals of the North Atlantic Conference tournament.

Prior to coming to Simmons, Ramsbotham served as an assistant at Boston College from 1999-2003 and worked primarily with the backs. In her final season, BC won the Big East Conference championship and made its first NCAA tournament appearance in five years. Ramsbotham, a former United States national youth player, has coached the US Field Hockey Association under-16 and under-19 youth squads. She has also coached in the Seacoast United Field Hockey league and served as a field hockey instructor at the Acton Indoor Sports Facility.

A standout defender at Boston College from 1995-98, Ramsbotham was a three-time All-America selection, including a first-team choice in 1998.  The two-time Big East Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Ramsbotham earned all-conference accolades in each of her four years at BC. As a captain in 1998, she led the Eagles to the Big East regular-season title and an NCAA quarterfinal appearance. Ramsbotham was inducted into the Boston College Varsity Club Hall of Fame in October of 2005.

Ramsbotham, a native of Melvin Village, N.H., earned a bachelor's degree in marketing and human resource management from BC in 1999 and a graduate certificate in the same discipline from Cornell in 2006. She currently works as a human resource business partner for Verizon.
