Coaches

Head Coach: Doug Backlund (9th Season)

Coach Doug Backlund is a former 4 year All-American swimmer and 1984 graduate of Springfield College. Entering his 9th season as the head swimming & diving coach at Simmons, Backlund has massed an impressive overall coaching record of 131-76-1 in the 15+ years coaching. During the 2004-2005 season, Backlund coached the sharks to yet another Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) championship title. This marks the third for the program in the past five years.

Prior to coming to Simmons, Backlund gained experience as an assistant at Harvard and head coach at American University in Washington, DC. He has coached two Olympians and numerous All-Americans.Backlund currently resides in Duxbury, MA with his wife and two sons.
