Application Guidelines
Applications are due to leadership@simmons.edu by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, February 1; please follow the instructions below to properly fill out your application. Applications must be complete and submitted on time in order to be considered for positions.
The interview process consists of a group process interview AND an individual interview.
Group process interviews last 2 hours, and will take place Tuesday, February 5 and Wednesday, February 6 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on both days. In your application, please indicate your availability for one or both of the interview days. Group process interviews will be assigned based upon applicant and interviewer availability; you will be notified by Saturday, February 2, 2008 as to which day you have been assigned for your group process interview.
Individual interviews will take place for EACH position for which you have applied. Interviews will take place between February 11 - March 7. You will have an opportunity to sign up for your interview time at your group process interviews.
For some positions, you may be requested to do a follow-up interview or conversation, if further information is needed for the decision process. You will be contacted if this is needed.
By submitting your application, you give the selection committee permission to gain access to your academic record. Undergraduate leaders must have and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.4, while graduate leaders must have and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 to obtain and remain in their positions. NOTE: There may be different GPA requirements for some positions; please read the position descriptions for further information.
You will be notified via e-mail by March 7 about the results of the student leadership selection process.
Studentsselected for many of the positions are expected to attend the Multicultural Student Leadership Training Day on Friday, March 28, 2008
Application requirements
All applications should be submitted via e-mail to leadership@simmons.edu and should include the following:
- Application cover page (file name should be Application - Last Name, First Name)
- Resume (file name should be Resume - Last Name, First Name)
- Essay (file name should be Essay - Last Name, First Name)
Application instructions

- Part 1: Demographic information: Fill out all pertinent fields
- Part 2: Position preference: You only need to complete one application for the process. Indicate your preference for positions in order of your interest. Mark only those for which you wish to be considered. For example, number 1 is your greatest priority, with Number 2 as your second priority, and so forth. You will be considered for each position you have indicated based upon your ability to meet all criteria, as well as departmental needs and position vacancies.
- Part 2B: Scott/Ross Programs: if you selected either Program Coordinator, Program Director, or Program Facilitator for a Scott/Ross Center for Community Service Program please indicate in which program(s) you are interested (the positions that are open are indicated next to the program). You do NOT need to select the programs if you are not applying for one of the Scott/Ross Center for Community Service Positions.
- Part 3: Group Process Interviews: Please let us know which Group Process Interview Days you are available. You will be notified by February 2 as to which group process interview day you have been assigned.
- Part 4: Time Commitments: Please list any significant commitments you expect to have during the period of employment for the position(s) for which you are applying (i.e. student teaching, study abroad, clubs and organizations, community service, work, athletics, etc.), and indicate the amount of hours per week needed for this commitment.
- Part 5: References: Please list the names, titles, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses of two (2) persons who will act as references on your behalf. At least one of your references should a Simmons College staff, faculty or administrator (Please do not submit letters of recommendation).

Resumes: Please submit a copy of your most recent resume, which details any leadership experiences you may have had. Resumes should be submitted as a separate file (titled "Resume - Last Name, First Name"). If you need assistance with creating a resume, please contact the Career Education Center. The Career Education Center is located in room P304 of the Palace Road Building. The phone number to the office is 617.521.2488.
Essay Question: Please submit your typed response to the following essay question, thoroughly and thoughtfully, as a separate file (titled "Essay - Last Name, First Name"). Your answer should be no more than 2 pages (500 words).
The Student Leadership Selection Process has become increasingly competitive—both in quantity and quality of applicants. Recognizing this, please express what makes your candidacy distinctive among the other candidates for each of the position(s) to which you are applying.
