Orientation and Residence Life Check-In

Please read below for important information regarding check-in on Sunday, September 2.

Saturday, September 1, 2007: International Student Program

All international students should plan to attend this program, as it will address SEVIS regulations and US government information necessary to remain in status throughout college. Due to the regulations program Saturday, international students may move in Thursday, August 30 or Friday, August 31.  

Sunday, September 2, 2007: Residence Life Move-In, Commuter Student Orientation, and All-College Welcome

Resident Students

  • When you are ready to move-in, a member of the Simmons community will greet you and direct you where to unload your car. Simmons Street Team Students (volunteers wearing orange T-shirts) and Orientation Leaders will help you unload your car and move your belongings into your residence hall. 
  • In order to keep traffic moving, we encourage you to pick up your Orientation materials and residence hall key while your family stays with your vehicle and unloads it. After you pick up these materials, you will be able to move into your residence hall room.
  • Students living on the residence campus should plan on moving in according to the following schedule sent out by Residence Life.
    • Students living on the fourth floor should plan to arrive between 9 and 10 am.
    • Students living on the third floor of a residence hall should arrive after 10 am 
    •  Students living on the first or second floor of a residence hall should arrive after 11 a.m. 
  • Transfer students living in 1025 and 1047 Beacon will receive their Orientation materials and room keys at 1047 Beacon St. We strongly encourage you to join the rest of the students on the Residence Campus after you move your belongings into the building.
  • Once your car is completely unloaded, you will be directed where to park.

Commuter Students

  • Commuter Students may check-in for Orientation any time between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
  • If you plan to attend the Commuter Student Orientation, we encourage you to plan to check-in between 10:30 and 11:00 a.m.
  • Commuter Student Orientation will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Team Room on the Second Floor of the Holmes Sports Center. We strongly encourage Commuter students and their families to attend this Orientation. This Orientation will offer you a chance to speak with members from Student Life, Public Safety and returning commuter students. You will also receive a tour of campus
  • Please note: unlike June Orientation, we are unable to offer housing for Commuter Students during Fall Orientation. However, you may wish to take advantage of the Commuter Student Room on the Residence Campus for $25/night; Space in this room is limited, but you can make a reservation by calling 617-521-1096.

Photo IDs:

  • If you had your photo taken for your Simmons ID at June Orientation, you will receive your ID with your Orientation materials.  
  • If you have not had your picture taken, you will have the opportunity to do so from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. in the first-floor lobby of the Holmes Sports Center.  Please bring a government-issued-identification (driver's license, passport, etc.) in order to receive your ID.  
  • If you already had your photo taken at June Orientation but did not have a government-issued-identification with you at the time, you will need to present your ID before orientation check in at the Photo ID table in the lobby of the Holmes Sports center.

Monday, September 3, 2007: F.A.C.E.S. (First-Year Appreciation of Cultural Experiences at Simmons)

F.A.C.E.S. will include a special performance by the group N*W*C. Blending theater, hip-hop, stand-up comedy, slam poetry, and true-life stories with their own original style, three tour-de-force performers take on racial slurs, stereotypes and the concept of race  itself in a 90-minute stage production. The stage production will be followed by discussion groups, in which first-year students will meet with their First-Year Experience seminar. All first-year students are expected to attend this event.  We also look forward to having Dix Scholars and transfer students in attendance.

  • Honor Code Session: This session is mandatory for all students
  • Vendor Fair (on the Residence Campus): purchase posters for your room, find out about banking options, etc.
  • Various Information Sessions
  • Academic Testing and Advising (for students who did not attend Summer Orientation)College Barbecue

Dix Scholars Orientation Program

Dix Scholars and their families are invited to join the other Orientation attendees for the Opening Address and College Welcome from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. on the Residence Campus.

On Tuesday, September 4, 2007 Dix Scholars are invited to attend the Dix Scholars luncheon from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Dix Scholars should try to attend one of the Honor Code Sessions (offered at 1:00, 1:45, and 2:30 p.m.). The afternoon will also include various information sessions that might be of interest to incoming Dix Scholars.
