Student Meal Plan Frequently Asked Questions

What are the meal plan options for this year?

There will be two choices for meal plans:

  • 260 meals/$50 points
  • 185 meals/$140 points

Your meal plan points carry from fall to spring semester, but expire at the end of the school year. Your meals expire at the end of each semester.

What are some of the benefits of the new plans?

After hearing feedback from many students about their desire for more flexibility, we worked on designing plans that built off last year's very popular semester "block plan" of 125 meals per semester.  One of the biggest benefits of the new plan is that you will not be limited to a certain number of meals at the Fens.  You will be able to eat as many meals of the semester meals as you want at either dining facility (limit one meal per meal period).  Also, with less plans, it will be less confusing.  You only have to make one choice, do you want more meals, or more points.  Choose the option that works best for you!

How was it determined which of the new meal plan options I would be signed up for?
In order to make the transition into new plans as smooth as possible we have assigned new plans based on the plans you had signed up for when you filled out your application.  New meal plans have been assigned as follows:

If you signed up for:                                                                            You now have:

Boston Common Plan  (125 Bartol meals per semester)            185 meals/$140 pts

Beacon Hill Plan  (14 Bartol meals per week)                               260 meals/$50 pts

Kenmore Square Plan  (9 Bartol meals per week)                       260 meals/$50 pts

Haymarket Square Plan  (5 Bartol meals per week)                    260 meals/$50 pts

How do I change my meal plan?

Meal plan changes can be made up until September 16, 2009.  Your meal plan can be changed by filling out a meal plan change form and returning it to Bartol or the Campus Card office.  Please allow approximately 3 business days for the change to be processed.

Can I use more than one meal per meal period?

You may only use one meal per meal period across campus.

Will I run out of meals that can be used at Fens Cafe at some point during the semester?
We have specifically designed these new plans to allow students to be able to eat at the Fens every day during the semester. The only limit on meals at the Fens is that you can only use one per meal period.

What is the difference between meals at Bartol and meals at Fens Cafe?

A swipe at Bartol will give you an "all you care to eat" meal.  The Fens runs on a cash system.  One meal at the Fens is equivalent to $4.20 - $6.00.   Anything above or below that amount will be subtracted from your meal points or Fenway Cash.
For example:

  • If you buy items that total $3.00, it will be taken from your points
  • If you buy items that total $6.25, you will have one meal subtracted from your total, and $0.25 taken out of your points.

What if I run out of meals?

While the plans are designed so that you have plenty of meals over the course of the semester, if you do run out of meals any remaining points can be used as cash to purchase meals.  Voluntary meal plans can be purchased at any time during the year. Please note that Fenway Cash, cash or credit cards can be used at any location.

Can I use meals at QuadSide?

No, meals can only be used at Bartol or the Fens.  Meal points, Fenway Cash, cash and credit cards are accepted at QuadSide.

How do I order a bagged meal?

Bagged breakfast, lunch or dinners are available if needed.  Please fill out a bagged meal form and return it to Bartol 1 day prior to the requested meal.  Your meal will be available for pickup during business hours.  Bagged meal forms are available at the cash register or can be downloaded from the Dining services website . While right now the meal plan forms are available for download, we look forward to a completely online form very soon!

If I need to leave early in the morning before breakfast starts, will I be able to get a bagged breakfast and lunch?

Bartol Hall will open at 7:00 AM for general dining, but bagged lunches and breakfasts are available for pickup at 6:30 AM.

How can I check my meal balance?

You can view your card balance by logging onto http://www.fenwaycard.com.  Here you can view your meal and points balance, your Fenway Cash totals, as well as your printing points.

What is the difference between Meal Points and Fenway Cash?

Meal points are included in your meal plan and can be used at Bartol Hall, Fens Cafe, Java City, Meyers Café, or at QuadSide.  Fenway Cash is added by you or your parents and can be used at a wide variety of locations.  It can be used at any of the dining halls on campus, in the COF, for laundry, in the mail room, or vending machines.  Fenway Cash can also be used at a number of local restaurants and stores in the area.  For a complete list, please visit the Fenway Card website.

How many guest meals do I get per semester?

Each student is allowed 5 guest meals per semester. You can use more than one at one time.
