President's Fund for Faculty Excellence
Program
The President's Fund for Faculty Excellence will serve to enable research and scholarship that has the potential to sustain the highest and most rewarding level of inquiry. The overall goals of this program are to stimulate innovative, influential, collaborative, and cross-disciplinary scholarship.
Requests for funding may be submitted for projects that build on research already underway or for entirely new initiatives. Projects may be based either on the Simmons campus or in the larger community.
Funding Priorities
The funding priorities under President's Fund for Faculty Excellence are:
- Have the potential to leverage external support
- Create collaborations within and outside of the College
- Define new areas of interdisciplinary inquiry
- Create opportunities for new and/or untenured faculty
- Encourage mentoring relationships among faculty
- Take advantage of unique opportunities, facilities or strengths of the College
- Develop, implement, and assess new pedagogies
Accountability
Accountability is essential for all categories of projects. Deliverables are required. Examples of deliverables include (but are not limited to):
- Submitted/published articles in peer reviewed journals
- Books and book chapters
- Book proposals
- Preparation of proposal(s) to funding agencies or foundations
- Conferences and conference proceedings
- Workshops and symposia
- Exhibits and exhibition catalogs
- Works of art and musical compositions
- Computer software and web-based technologies
- Digital archives and databases
Applicant Eligibility
Faculty members with appointments of at least 50% FTE are eligible to apply to the Fund.
Levels of Support
Proposals submitted by an individual faculty member may request up to $10,000. If a proposal is collaborative and involves two faculty members the maximum award is $15,000.

There will be two application deadlines per year with approximately $50,000 available to award in each round. The second round deadline for 2007/2008 is Friday, March 28, 2008.
