Marketing at Simmons

In 2002, Simmons College created a new, centralized marketing function, bringing together the undergraduate college and graduate schools under one verbal and visual identity system in order to build a stronger, more unified Simmons presence in the world. Today, the Office of the Vice President of Marketing's focus includes helping to build, strengthen, and steward the Simmons brand and vision across all communications, including advertising, print and online publishing, and media relations. This involves the delivery of clear, consistent, and strategic messages to targeted external and internal audiences, and also ensuring the integrity of the institution's visual identity.

The Office of the Vice President of Marketing oversees four main functions: advertising, marketing communications (including advancement/alumni communications), online marketing, and public relations.

Advertising

Simmons Purpose Campaign Materials

A key component of our marketing initiative, Advertising conducts a range of initiatives, including brand advertising, program and event advertising, and diversity marketing campaigns. Recent and ongoing advertising campaigns include the outdoor and public transportation "Purpose" campaign, ads in the Metro and other publications, and diversity marketing.

Marketing Communications

Marketing Communications oversees all print materials intended for external audiences, including alumnae/i, prospective students, and friends of the College. Print materials include academic viewbooks, advancement publications, brochures, postcards, and posters, as well as the Simmons alumnae/i magazine. Please refer to our publications intranet for information on design guidelines, preferred vendors, and access to downloadable brand-appropriate templates, palette colors, and images.

Online Marketing

They are responsible for maintaining Alumnet, the Simmons alumnae/i web community, and sending online communications to our diverse alumnae/i base. Online Marketing partners with Simmons admission teams to create email marketing campaigns for prospects and creates banner ads and other online advertising. They also handle search marketing for the College, including search engine optimization, key word placement, and web statistics analysis.

Public Relations

Simmons Style Guide

Public Relations provides both internal and external publicity for the College, including press releases and news pitches to the media for feature stories and editorials, and "In the Loop" (the faculty/staff newsletter). PR also produces Spotlight on Simmons on the Simmons main website, a column that features current stories about the College that also are of interest to prospective students and their families. In addition, they maintain the Simmons Style Guide, which details usage and grammar rules for all print and web publications.
