Publications Intranet

A resource tool and guide to creating publications for the Simmons Community

Resources

Welcome to the Publications Intranet resources page. Here you can find out how to use the elements from Simmons visual and verbal identity systems.

The College has a College-wide image database called CUMULUS that houses all marketing and archival images and files. If you need access to Cumulus, please contact Ivette Argueta, at ivette.argueta@simmons.edu to request an account.

The College requires that any photograph taken of students, alumni, faculty, staff, or any persons for use by the College have a signed consent form on file with the Office of the Vice President for Marketing.

The College has a strict image alteration and use policy. Please read this policy prior to use or alteration of any images. Please contact publications@simmons.edu with any questions regarding images, rights, and usage.

Please see the illustrations section of this site for our illustration usage policy.

Color Palette

Simmons College has a color palette that is required for all publications. Note that the colors you see on your screen or printed on your color printer may not be exact. Please refer to the Pantone colors and verify with the publications team if questions arise. For letterhead and stationery, the College uses PMS 2718.

Logos

Fonts

The official Simmons College typeface is Scala, which is required on all external print pieces. You may make use of the entire Scala suite, which includes serif and sans serif fonts. Please use Mrs. Eaves when using the Simmons logotype as a logo or as a return address.

Font tip: Using no more than two fonts, one serif and one sans serif, makes for a well-designed piece. Using all caps or too much bold and italics makes your text hard to read.

Illustrations

The Office of Marketing Communications commissioned original illustrations for each of the College's schools for marketing purposes. These illustrations are intended for school-specific use, but exceptions can be made.

There are strict usage rights and specific contracts with our illustrators to keep the integrity of the artwork and its intention intact. Illustrations may not be altered. Portions or sections of the illustrations may be used. If an illustration is re-sized, it must be done proportionately. Please contact publications@simmons.edu for more information or questions.

Simmons Style Guide

The Style Guide was produced by the Office of Public Relations and provides a standard for the way the College communicates. It is important that proofreading by public relations be made a part of producing your piece. Please contact elyse.pipitone@simmons.edu to schedule a proofreading appointment.

Guide to Event Publicity at Simmons

The "Get the Word Out" resource guide will help you obtain publicity for your events. For more information, contact the Office of Public Relations at ext. 2363.

Publications Guide

The publications guide is a tool for our partners to use when beginning a print publication project. It should be used to establish reasonable expectations, as well as to help eliminate common roadblocks when producing a publication.

Templates

The College has a limited number of templates that can be used by those who have access to and advanced knowledge of QuarkXPress. Please contact us at publications@simmons.edu if you would like to use them. Our office also has a designer on staff who is available for project design and consultation, or we can recommend someone from our preferred list of external designers.
