Office of Residence Life

Beacon Street Information

This year we are proud to offer housing at two separate locations on Beacon St., 1025 and 1047. The brownstones are quite charming and we feel confident you will be pleased with this housing option. To assist you in your transition to Simmons, there will be a Resident Adviser (RA) on site at both brownstones. The Resident Adviser will be there to provide information, a listening ear, or other assistance, as well as provide programs. There will also be a Residence Director to assist you during the academic year living at 1025 Beacon Street. The properties are very secure and Simmons Public Safety Office provides regular patrols. In addition, you will be able to enjoy your full meal plan on the residence and main campuses.

Below you will find photographs of 1047 and 1025 Beacon Street Residences in slideshow format.

Move-In Day & Parking

Resident Student Registration and Move-In is Sunday, September 3, 2006 beginning at 10:00 am. The residents for both properties will check in at 1047 Beacon St. There you will receive your Orientation materials including your schedule for the first week of the academic year. Following your registration, you may move your belongings into your assigned brownstone. We have reserved a number of spots directly in front of both 1025 and 1047 Beacon St. to facilitate loading and unloading. Once you have unloaded your vehicle, Public Safety staff will direct you to park at either One Palace Road Building on the Academic Campus or the MASCO parking garage at 375 Longwood Ave ($5.00 daily rate on weekends), also near the Residence Campus.

What am I allowed to bring with me to 1025 or 1047 Beacon?

While living in the Beacon St. property you will be responsible for following a number of rules regarding health and safety. In addition to abiding by all policies stated in the Simmons College Student Handbook, please be aware of the following guidelines when deciding what to bring with you to your new home:

  • The following items will NOT be allowed in 1025 and 1047 Beacon
  • Any cooking appliances other than the college-supplied Microfridge
  • Additional refrigerators or appliances beyond that supplied by the college
  • Halogen lamps
  • Candles, incense, or any other type of flame or burning unit
  • All pets (With the exception of small fish that live in a 5-gallon fish tank or smaller)
  • Standard extension cords. ONLY power strips will be allowed in the facility (please note: it is a safety hazard to link several power strips together)

What do I need to know about the Brookline inspection process?

Brookline properties (both 1025 and 1047) are required to undergo a housing inspection process every year from three agencies; fire, police, and housing. If the building does not pass the housing inspection, we lose our lease. As you can see, it is VERY important that we take the necessary steps to assure that every student living at the property is abiding by the inspection guidelines.

Per Brookline city guidelines, please be aware of the following when setting up your rooms:

  • All emergency exits need a 3 foot clearance the entire length of the room from the exit to the door of the room.
  • Do not leave any open food containers in rooms or around the house.
  • Microfridge and air conditioning unit needs to be plugged straight into the wall, i.e no extension cords ( for 1047)

Students will be informed of the dates prior to inspection. We appreciate your cooperation in maintaining a clean and safe living environment.

Telephone Access

Each room has access to an outside telephone line. The main phone number at 1047 Beacon Street is 617-264-5523. To access your room the extension number will be 1 + your room number. If you are living in 1025 Beacon, you will notice with your room assignment that you have not been given any phone numbers. Upon arrival you will be able to get the main phone number at 1025 Beacon Street and will be given a phone number to Simmons College.

For more information on the Simmons telephone and voicemail systems, please see the Technology Helpdesk Phone and Voicemail tips page.

Cab Vouchers

We will be issuing each student two cab vouchers a day to get to and from the academic campus. Although the walk is very pleasant, we understand that on cold or rainy days, you may not want to face the elements.

Mail

You will receive all of your mail at your assigned Beacon St address. For those living at 1047, you will find your complete mailing address with the housing assignment you were mailed. For those of you living at 1025, you will be given your complete mailing address when you arrive. Please be sure to include your Mail Stop Code (MSC) in your address.
