FAQ:
Who can stay?
- Residence Life houses current Simmons College students and students taking classes at Simmons College during the summer. If you are a student during the academic year you do not need to be in classes during summer to sign up for on-campus housing.
- Graduate students wanting to live on campus during the summer have the option of staying in their same room. If they have chosen a new room for the fall, they will be able to move into that room during the summer provided that it is available.
Where do students live during the summer?
- Summer residents applying for a single room will be housed in North, South, Back Bay Manor (BBM) according to space availability. Summer residents applying for a double room will be housed in South Hall and BBM. Undergraduate students are likely to be housed in double rooms. Only a limited number of singles are available at the beginning of the summer. Preference for singles will be given to graduate students/Dix Scholars who are continuing residents from the academic year.
How does transitioning from my old room to my summer assignment work?
- At the beginning of summer, students who are currently in residential housing will be given the time to move their summer space. We call this period "transition" because there is not one day, date, or time when everyone moves. We contact each student individually when their new space is ready to arrange a time for them to move. All students will be moved byWednesday, May 21st.
- At the end of summer any student that will be living on campus for the Fall semester can remain on campus for the transition period fee and will move from their summer housing assignment directly to their fall housing assignment.
Do current Graduate/Dix students and graduating seniors need to sign up for "transition"?
- No. The current Graduate/Dix contract extends until 5/31/08. Grad/Dix students wishing to stay for Session 1 (4 weeks) or the full summer (13 weeks) should sign up for those periods. Graduating seniors can stay in housing until 5/18/08 under their current contract. They can also sign up for Session 1 (6 weeks), or a different time period (charged at the weekly rate).
How do I pay for summer housing?
- Student Financial Service will bill you for your summer room; however payment can also be taken as check or money order. Cash can be accepted only at the Cashier window.
What kind of spaces do you have available?
- Single and double rooms, as well as 4-person apartments are available during the summer. We will house students in North, South, and Back Bay Manor Apartments. We charge by the week, session and whole summer and any combination thereof depending on how long you decide to stay with us. The prices will include basic phone service, voice mail, and cable access. There are additional charges for long distance service and microfridge. Meal plans are not available during the summer.
How is Back Bay Manor Housing assigned?
- 1st priority for summer housing at BBM will be given to students who live in BBM currently and are continuing in the fall. 2nd priority for summer housing will be given to students who live in BBM currently and are taking a summer class. 3rd priority for summer housing will be given to students who will live in the apartment in the fall. 4th priority for summer housing will be given to all others, based on date of application. Singles will be assigned on a space available basis.
How do I request Special Accommodations?
- Medical documentation for a request based on medical needs must be received by May 1, 2008 to determine the necessity of the request.
- Please go to the Simmons' website http://my.simmons.edu/offices/disability-services for information and necessary medical documentation forms.
When will I check out & how does check out work?
- Students staying for Session 1 and Session 2 will check out of their housing the day after their classes ends by 12pm. For Session 1, most students will check out Saturday, 6/28/08 and for session 2, students will check out on Saturday, 8/9/08. If you have a Saturday class, please let the Office of Residence Life know at the time of your application to summer housing.
- Students staying on at a weekly rate will check out the last day of paid occupancy.
- After you complete your move you should check in with an RA to complete an inspection and sign your room condition report. You have the option to choose to have an 'express checkout'. In this case, you would not have to sign your room condition report but you waive the right to contest any damage charges. Once you have completed your check out you can come into the Office of Residence Life to sign your key back in or drop off your key in the key drop box located in your hall. If for any reason we have not received your key within 2 business days of your move, your room will be recored and you will be billed $50.00.
