FAFSA
Students should first see if they qualify for federal loans (i.e., Stafford Loan and Perkins Loan).  In order to determine if you quaify for federal loans, you should submit a FAFSA online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov as well as any other necessary documentation requested by the Office of Student Financial Services.

STAFFORD LOAN MASTER PROMISSORY NOTE (MPN)
Once you have been awarded a Stafford Loan by Student Financial Services, you must complete a Master Promissory Note.  Go to http://dlenote.ed.gov and click the link to complete a new MPN for a student.  Then, follow the instructions and prompts on each page until you are given the message - "SUCCESS! Now Print Your MPN."

To sign the MPN, you will need to have several pieces of information:

  • The borrower's PIN - a PIN can be obtained, or a duplicate requested, at http://www.pin.ed.gov
  • The borrower's driver's license number
  • The names, completed addresses, and phone numbers for two references living at two separate addresses.  One should be a family member.

FEDERAL LOAN ENTRANCE COUNSELING
In addition to signing the MPN to receive your Stafford Loan, you must also complete Entrance Counseling.  You can find more information on Entrance Counseling on this section of our website.

ADDITIONAL LOANS
Beyond federal loans, there is the PLUS Loan as well as other alternative loans through various lenders.
