Effective Course Design and Collaborative Learning -- Guest Presenter: Shoggy Waryn (Brown University)

With WebCT we can track our students throughout a semester, but how does this knowledge inform our teaching? This presentation will look at WebCT tool use and student study patterns, considering how active and passive student feedback can inform course design and classroom teaching. The course to be discussed engages students on both sides of the Atlantic in collaborative work within a single course, sharing the same web site for cross-cultural analysis.

Guest Presenter: Shoggy Waryn is a Senior Lecturer at Brown University, where he teaches French language and French film. His interests range from media history and technology, cross-cultural studies, to online pedagogy and teaching. He is, with Gilberte Furstenberg (MIT) and Sabine Levet (Brandeis), co-author of CULTURA and he also worked at Brown on a Spanish and Russian version of that project.

All lunches take place in P113 from 12:30-1:30 and are limited to 15 participants. Please call PTRC at x2736 or register online at least 72 hours in advance so that we know how many lunches to provide.
