On Wednesday September 28th, Technology will implement SOPHOS PureMessage Spam and Virus filtering on the Simmons email system. When PureMessage begins operation, instead of receiving spam in your inbox, you will receive a daily message listing the SPAM that has been removed from your email. Our testing shows that PureMessage is very successful at intercepting a vast majority of SPAM (well over 90%) and rarely or never intercepts real email. In the unlikely event that a message that was not SPAM was filtered, you may retrieve it with two clicks by following the instructions in the daily message. By default, Technology will filter all email sent to Simmons. If you wish, you may change your SPAM filtering options via http://preferences.simmons.edu. You will have 2 options besides the default filtering, either to leave your email entirely alone, or to tag each email with PureMessage's estimated probability it is SPAM and pass it to you to deal with. If you have any questions about this service, please contact the Help Desk at x2222.
