This alert from Technology at Simmons College contains essential information for all Windows users who have installed the Simmons free antivirus software on a personal computer. If you have not yet installed the free software, please go to http://my.simmons.edu/antivirus and do so!
When we set up Sophos Anti-Virus for computers owned by members of the Simmons community, we were conservative with the settings. We configured Sophos so that when it detected a virus, it alerted the user, but left more stringent action to the user. Since users have told us they have been misinterpreting these alerts, we now recommend that all users change the settings so that Sophos will take additional actions automatically upon identifying a virus.
Please follow the steps outlined at
http://my.simmons.edu/antivirus/winantivirus2.shtml#config
Start with the instructions under the heading "Configure Sophos Anti- Virus"
We recommend you make these configuration changes immediately, and our apologies for any confusion.
