We have enabled a new component of our email service. People who only use WebMail will not notice this improvement. This message applies to people who use email software (such as Apple Mail, Netscape, Outlook, or Thunderbird) from off-campus to access their Simmons email. The contents of this message is a little technical.

Beginning March 3, Technology will enable SMTP authentication to allow secure sending of email through Simmons servers from outside the Simmons network. This will allow people off-campus to send outgoing email through Simmons, but require them to give their Simmons username and password. This change won't effect the way you send mail from campus.

Instructions for enabling this capability and configuring your email software to access Simmons mail can be found at:

http://my.simmons.edu/technology/helpdesk/email/software.shtml

Please be advised that some Internet Service Providers (ISPs) block the network ports necessary for this functionality to work and require that you use their email server to send mail.

If you have any questions, or concerns, please contact the Help Desk at 617-521-2222.
