This is an alert from Technology at Simmons College. As of April 19 at 1 pm, some users are experiencing trouble sending email from off-campus. All other Simmons technology services are operating normally.

Have you recently sent an email message to someone, and had that person tell you it didn't arrive?

Technology has received several reports that legitimate email messages have been quarantined by the Simmons anti-spam filter. We believe this problem has only affected mail sent from off-campus, from one Simmons.edu address to other Simmons.edu addresses. We have found that a large quantity of these messages have been sent from off-campus computers relaying mail through their comcast.net Internet Service Provider.

If you use an email application (such as Outlook, or Apple Mail) to read and send Simmons mail from off-campus, please configure your "SMTP settings".

If you do not use an email application other than WebMail, but would like to, check out those instructions.

Technology has temporarily put all addresses ending in "Simmons.edu" onto the "approved senders" list to help alleviate this problem while we are working to resolve the problem along with our anti-spam vendor. If you have experienced a similar issue please report it to the Simmons Technology Help Desk (helpdesk@simmons.edu, 617-521-2222).

The next email update will be an announcement when service has been fully restored. If you would like to follow up on the status of this interruption, please check the Technology Alerts web page at http://my.simmons.edu/technology/alerts. You may also check the Technology status message by calling 617-521-2222, option 3. Both the alerts web page and the status message will be updated approximately every 15 minutes throughout this disruption.

If you have information that may assist us in resolving this issue, please contact the Help Desk: 617-521-2222, and press 8 to speak with a technician; or email helpdesk@simmons.edu

Thank you for your patience.
