Update, July 9, 2007
We have tested the OS update on several computers and found no problems. According to technical message boards, people have had trouble, but the worst of the problems have been resolved with Apple's security patch.

Update, June 29, 2007
Although Apple's most recent security patch is supposed to fix the issues with the OS update listed below, in our testing thus far it has not proven to be stable. Please continue to avoid these updates.

This is an alert from Technology at Simmons College. This information only concerns users of Macintosh computers.

Simmons computers
If you do not have an administrative account on your Macintosh computer, you can disregard this message: you cannot install this update.

If you have an administrative account on your Macintosh computer, please do not install the system software update called "Mac OS X Update (Intel or PPC)" version "10.4.10" released yesterday, June 21, 2007.

Your own Macintosh
Technology strongly suggests that you do not install the system software update called "Mac OS X Update (Intel or PPC)" version "10.4.10" released yesterday, June 21, 2007.

Why to avoid this update
This update to Mac OS makes many back end system changes, and has already been shown to cause file corruption and prevented some laptop users from being able to charge their batteries. It is likely that Apple will pull this update or release another version of the update in the next week. Make sure that update 10.4.10 is dated later than June 21, 2007 before installing it.
