Accessibility & Technology
As part of our commitment to diversity, Technology at Simmons College works with Disability Services to provide specially equipped "accessibility stations" around campus, delivers accessibility devices to classrooms on campus, loans accessibility devices to faculty, staff, and students, and makes available information about features built into the Windows Vista and Macintosh OS X operating systems.
Accessibility stations
Every general access space and Technology Lab on campus has at least one "accessibility station." Accessibility station computers are equipped with a specialized keyboard (large type and braille), large trackball, and large monitor to make use more accessible. Locations:
- Library
- Information Commons: 1st & 2nd Floor (1: Mac; 5: Windows)
- L003 (1: Mac/Windows)
- L012 (1: Windows)
- Science Center
- S-150 (1: Windows)
- S-251A (1: Windows)
- Palace Road
- P113 (1: Mac/Windows)
- Career Resource Library (1: Windows)
- Residence Campus: Arnold Hall Lab (1: Windows)
Accessibility devices
Faculty or students needing a Digital image magnifier (EVS Flipper) delivered to a classroom should contact Media Services at 617-521-2765 for more information. Students must make delivery requests through Disability Services. There are large trackballs available for checkout from Media Services in P108 and, for use within the Library, from the Information Commons Technology Desk on the 1st floor.
Accessibility software
All general access and lab computers (such as those in the Information Commons on the 1st and 2nd floors of the library, and in classrooms with computers at each student's seat), and all instructor's workstations in classrooms have a shortcut on the desktop to accessibility features. The icon for that shortcut, depending on which operating system you are using, is:
Windows
Macintosh
For more information about how to use each of these features, for Windows Vista, Macintosh OS X, and JAWS, please see the set of instructions.
